Competition Regulations 2022

 

GENERAL INFORMATION:

The 11th Johann Matthias Sperger Competition for Double Bass will take place in Rostock, Germany, from 27 March to 3 April 2022.

Eligibility: Double bassists of all nationalities, born after 1 January 1987, may enter in the competition.

Répétiteurs: Experienced piano and viola répétiteurs are available to participants free of charge. Candidates may bring their own répétiteurs at their own expense. Their name and address must be filled in on the registration form. These indications are binding.

Participants and their private répétiteurs are responsible for their own accommodation and meals. Affordable hotels and private accommodations are available.

All participants will receive a certificate of participation.

The organiser will not be held liable for instruments or possessions belonging to the candidates.

APPLICATION:

The deadline for applications is 21 January 2022.

Application must be completed through the online application form at www.spergercompetition.com.

A video of the candidate performing one movement of a work of the Classical period must be uploaded to YouTube or other platform, and the link pasted into the application form.

The application fee of €125,00 must be transferred “without charges for the recipient” to the following account:

Only complete applications will be accepted. Applications which do not contain all information and documents required by the competition will be rejected.

Submitted documents cannot be returned.

By completing the application, the competitor accepts the conditions of participation and agrees to abide by the rules and regulations of the competition, as well as the decisions of the jury. Legal recourse is excluded.

ADMISSION:

Candidates will be notified as to their acceptance to the Competition as soon as possible after their registration, and no later than 2 February 2022.

The number of participants is limited. The order in which applications are received will be taken into consideration.

The decision of admission to the competition is incontestable, and no explanations will be provided. If a candidate is not accepted to participate, the organiser will retain a €50 administration fee from the candidate´s application fee. If a candidate cancels their participation, their application fee will not be reimbursed.

The selected candidates will receive confirmation in writing.  International competitors can, if necessary, use this confirmation letter to apply for an entry visa.

 

THE COMPETITION:

  1. The competition is carried out in 4 rounds. All rounds are open to the public.

  2. The order in which candidates will perform is determined by the drawing of lots. The order will remain binding until the end of the competition.

  3. Each candidate must personally check his/her scheduled performance times and be present 30 minutes prior to the beginning of these times at the designated performance venue.

  4. Solo tuning and Viennese tuning are allowed.

  5. Candidates must bring their own sheet music, including all piano parts. Photocopies may not be used.

  6. The final round must be performed from memory. In case of doubt, the facsimile is valid.

  7. Changes to the repertoire indicated at the moment of application will not be permitted.

  8. The jury is entitled to stop the performance before its end.

  9. The decisions of the jury are incontestable.

  10. The organiser will record and broadcast the entire competition. By entering the competition, participants waive their artists ́ rights, in favour of the organiser, to all audio and visual recordings and their subsequent publication (CD, DVD, internet live-stream or other media). Participants will not receive any compensation on account of their performances or any resulting recordings or broadcasts.

    The organiser especially reserves the right to allow radio and television stations to transmit live, record and broadcast all parts of the competition.

  11. Any use of audio, video or photographic material by a third party requires the authorisation of the organiser.
